Find a quiet spot in nature. The more submersed the better. Maybe a tree to sit under or a nice spot by the water where you can allow yourself to settle.
Close your eyes and take in some slow, deep breaths. Focus on the sounds around you, the feeling of the ground supporting you, the air flowing into and out of your nose, the stillness of the trees, the breeze on your face or the sun on your skin.
If your thoughts drift, focus them back into the sounds and sensations you feel. Stay here for as long as you can, breathing slowly and steadily. Allow your mind to calm and your body to relax. Whether you’re sitting on the ground or leaning against a tree, allow yourself to feel supported. Say to yourself, “I am calm. I am safe. I am grounded.” Stay present.
When you feel like you’re done, slowly open your eyes and take in the world around you. Notice how different your body and mind feels. Carry this feeling as you move throughout the day. Much of the world we live in is a distraction, which makes slowing down, getting into nature, focusing on our breathing much more important in order to give our nervous systems a break.
The world moves fast, so we need to make a point to find moments to pause so that we can reset ourselves, before we go back into the noise of everyday life.
