I was reminded today of a story I read a while ago about a child that was brought to the zoo, where he saw an elephant tied to a stake. He asks the animal trainer, “why doesn’t the elephant just use its size to pull the stake out of the ground to free itself?” To which the trainer replies, “as they grow up, they’re conditioned to believe that they cannot break free. They believe that the rope can still hold them, so they don’t even try.”
And like the elephant, how many of us are tied to old beliefs about ourselves and the way we’re living? Choosing to stay stuck in past versions of who we were, even though we’re strong enough to break free of them…
So the most important question we need to ask ourselves is, what is actually holding us back?
